Crossing the Rubicon

Last night an overwhelmingly warm and celebratory party marked the end of my first demi-siècle. Now I feel that the next threshold to be crossed is the Atlantic...

Go, Johnny, Go! You lucky bastard, Jake - this is also my great unconsumed ambition so the account had better be good if I'm to get my vicarious kicks. Auerbach via Kerouac out of Cormac McCarthy from Guthrie ex Walt Whitman at the least! I've linked to you from my blog so you should get - ooh - two, maybe three extra readers. I you good travelling and look forward to the bulletins.

Have a great time, Jake! I met you and Lizzy at Ann & Jonathan's wedding a couple of years ago. When I was in London at Xmas, Ann told me about your trip. When I was in my 20s in the mid-70s, several times I did by Greyhound bus what you're about to do. Enjoy and blog-out when you're in need of suggestions. Pretty soon you'll have quite a few people tagging along. I'll put a link to your blog in my own, which is (unoriginally) dedicated to cooking and eating in restaurants.

Enjoy yourself.

The missing word in the penultimate line is 'wish'. The big cash prizes are in the post.

"Here we go, here we go, here we go ....." and other chants. Wish it could be "We're going up ...." - still. So excited - this really makes me think you actually will go. Very much looking forward to the last match of the season - not something ordinarily you'd hear coming out of my mouth. Much love x

Hi Jake,

Sorry to miss tha party. Heard it was great fun.

As for America, make sure you look good, everyone has a camera these days... Maybe a nice suit?

And don't cut your hair, look what it did for Adebayor.

Lots of love,
